One of the drains on our immune systems smiles at us in the mirror. We need to take care of our teeth, gums and tongue. We need routine dental care. We need to pay attention to the products we use in our mouths. The better our mouth health is, the less our immune system must work to fight the bacteria and possible toxins resting in it.
We have been taught to brush our teeth after eating and floss them at least daily. It is also a good idea to use an irrigation system like Waterpik at least daily. It is amazing to see how much food debris is seen in the sink, coming from freshly brushed and flossed teeth. Essential oils like ginger, peppermint and clove may be used in the systems. They kill bacteria. There are herbal products to use in the mouth that decrease bacterial growth. I personally use Essential oils from Young Living and toothpaste and rinses from The Dental Herb Company.
There is a product on the market for cavity prevention that is fun for children. Orange flavored suckers that are eaten twice a day for 10 days and reduce cavities. drjohns.com
For anyone having immune system problems or diseases of any kind, especially cancers, removal of any amalgams in the mouth and replacing with possibly safer non toxic substances is sometimes recommended. One must investigate the benefits potentially against the risks. You must not expose yourself to toxins like mercury if your blood brain barrior is not intact. You should be tested before attempting amalgam removal. There are environmental dentists who specialize in removal and replacement in environmentally sensitive and safe ways. Mercury and nickel in amalgams and crowns may not be a safe substances to keep in the mouth and immune systems may be working to detoxify the mercury. This immune system distraction may allow for disease to occur. In theory, every time the mercury comes into contact with heat or the friction of chewing , it off gasses. Is this mercury enough to harm? There are interesting documentaries about this and much controversy. No one knows the answer yet.
If you decide to remove the mercury fillings in your mouth you need to have removal done by specially trained dentists. Your health may become worse if mercury is not removed with care or if your blood brain barrier is not intact.
Another good practice for oral health is oil pulling. Oil Pulling is an ancient Ayuvedic dental technique also known as kavala or gunusha. This activity removes bacteria and heavy metals from the body. Using organic coconut or sesame oil, start with one teaspoon. You just swish the oil around in the mouth without swallowing for as long as you can tolerate. The goal is 20 minutes and when you need to spit it out , make sure to spit in the trash , not the sink.
A wonderful environmental dentist , Dr Stephen Lawrence, located in Carlsbad has retired but his practice has been purchased by Dr. Illein Minter and Dr Ben McEvoy. The staff is the same. They offer all the newer safe technology and can be contacted through the following web site: www.wellnewwdentalcare,com It is still under Dr Lawrence's name with Dr Minter's name in the map directions. His educational information was still available as of March 24th,2020. I hope it continues to be available. He has also published a wonderful book Holistic Dental Care which is available on Amazon and it is available in the office for purchase. The new name of the practice is Carlsbad Smile Studio. Dr Minter renovated the office, shiny and new. I have seen both Dr Minter and Dr McEvoy and thoroughly approve of their care. The web site is CarlsbadSmileStudio.com
