Eat a variety of different foods. the brighter the colors , the better.
Eat foods a pure as possible. Organic and natural foods are best. Processed foods tend to be non-nutritive. They have some grains like glutens that are not good for many of us. They also have trans fats which are not good for anyone. They are mostly cooked so the health value is less. They come in plastic and metal containers that leach toxins into your food.
Eat foods as close to their sources as possible. An apple off your organic tree is more nutritious than one from a store. An apple from a store is more nutritious than apple juice or apple sauce. Fresh apple juice is more nutritious than frozen apple juice and so on.
Raw foods contain greater amounts of nutrients. Heat foods to less than 118 degrees if you cook them.
Non-GMO, non pasteurized raw foods, and non radiated foods have the wholeness to fight off bacteria that cause disease. Their natural balance may be protective for us. These food alterations have increased shelf life of foods so that agri-business wastes less food and makes more money. But is that safe for us?
Drink your solid foods and chew your liquids. Chew your solid foods until they are liquid before swallowing. and chew your liquids before swallowing to maximize your enzyme production and function in the mouth. Foods are broken down better in the stomach if digestion starts in the mouth.
Do not eat protein foods with starches. The proper amount of hydrochloric acid is provided by the stomach in response to what it receives. Starches send a message to the stomach quickly to provide less than is needed for protein digestion. If proteins enter the small intestine undigested they are inflammatory to the tissue and raise cortisol levels and your endocrine system can respond in many undesired ways. By age 50 we produce one third less hydrochloric acid as we did in our prime according to endocrinologist, Dr. Diana Schwartzbein, MD. We need to supplement our protein meals with adequate amounts of hydrochloric acid (Betaine is sold over the counter at health food stores). According to Dr. Pamela Smith, MD, take one pill with a protein meal and if you have no stomach discomfort, take two with the next protein meal until you have discomfort and then back down to the the level which did not produce discomfort. That is what you need to digest protein after age 50.
Very often we crave foods that are not good for us. People will crave foods to which they are allergic. This happens because the response of exposure to allergic foods raises cortisol levels from the adrenal glands. High cortisol makes us feel good. Thus we crave foods that make us feel good.( If the food is an acute allergen that produces anaphylaxis, we would avoid it because it would make us feel bad.) But foods that are IgA or IgG allergens do not typically produce severe reactions. In some they do not notice any symptoms at all. They just feel better temporarily because of the temporary cortisol elevations caused by exposure. But the damage is being done Gastro-intestinal problems occur. Blood pressure raises. We develop leaky gut syndrome ( Leaky gut info from Dr. Hugh Scott, PHD-Biocytonics.com) and then are not able to absorb our nutrients from the gut correctly and become malnourished. When we are malnourished long enough, we develop illness. We can eat poorly so long before our adrenal glands are not able to functions as they should. Remember that our adrenal glands are the key to our immune system. We want to keep them very healthy and not burned out. They can only do so much before they need to be rebuilt. The four foods that are most highly allergic in us are Glutens, Dairy, Eggs and Soy. Next come nuts in the allergy list of problematic foods.
I use testing from four different laboratries for testing food intolerances: US BioTeck, Genova, Cyrex and Elisa-Act. Testing can identify food intolerances which can significantly affect quality of life. The alternative to this is to do elimination diets to see if symptoms respond to the changes in diet.
We tend to eat in too much of a hurry. We do not honor our food and as a result it does not honor us with its maximal benefit and may even be detrimental to us.So choose food carefully and eat it slowly and enjoy what it can do for us besides just tasting good.
When we travel eating our best is more difficult for us and at home it also diffecult to get our loved ones to eat well. There is Juice Plus. Organic fruits and vegetables and a berry blend for more anti-oxident power are available in capsules and gummies. I have taken these and provided them for my whole family for the last 15 years. You can order from the following web site which has no affliliations to me. And like all the products that I have links to, there is no confllict of interest.WWW.jp4wellbeing.com
The following are interesting books and web sites for nutritional advice:
The Body Ecology Diet by Donna Gates.
The Enzyme Factor by Dr. Hiromi Shinya, MD
The Inflammation Syndrome by Jack Challem
The Genotype Diet by Dr. D'Adamo.
The Grain Brain by David Perlmutter.
The Plant Paradox by Steven Gundry.(my favorite)
If you have medical problems that Western/Allopathic Medicine have been unable to shed light on because all you tests say that you are normal, maybe you need to look at your diet closely to see if a different approach will benefit you.
Other health paradigms like Acupuncture and Chiropractic which evaluate nutrition may be of great value.
In addition to eating well, you can test to see if you are providing all the nutrients that the body needs with the Genova NutrEval. This blood and urine test looks at your nutrient levels and tells you what you are deficient in and how much more of a nutrient you need. You stop all supplements for 4 days (and certain drugs) and do the testing with blood and a first morning urine test, the result will tell you just what your diet is providing and exactly how much of any particular nutrient you need to supplement . this take s the guess work out of what to take for better health.
